Public Defender

A Florida public defender is an elected constitutional officer who provides legal representation to indigent individuals facing the loss of liberty or life who cannot afford a private attorney. They manage entire judicial circuit offices to defend clients in felonies, misdemeanors, juvenile cases, and Baker Act proceedings.

A Public Defender in each of the state’s judicial circuits serves an elected four-year term, but they can run for reelection indefinitely.
